Welcome to the Fassbender Photographic Collection!
For the first time in three decades, the collection of photographs, negatives, slides and film footage collected by Josef and George Fassbender are getting the attention they deserve. This massive collection - over 800,000 images - is in the process of being cataloged and preserved by the cities of Spearfish, Deadwood, and Lead. Our goals are to preserve, conserve, and make available for public education the beautiful and fascinating images which captured over a century of Black Hills history. This website will allow you to learn a little more about the collection, the Board, and find ways to get involved with cataloging and preservation efforts.
